About the Ozitalian Community Choir

The Ozitalian Choir is the premier opera and Italian music community choir in South Australia. It is a large choir of singers who love opera and popular Italian songs and share that love by performing to audiences across the state. The group is under the musical direction of conductor and baritone, maestro Mario Bellanova, a highly respected and critically acclaimed opera veteran from Italy has provides instruction and mentorship to the members of Ozitalia Choir and under whose direction the choir has become amongst the very best community singing ensembles in Australia.

Opera, for those who sing it, and those who attend it - is a very rare luxury indeed, because unlike so many other beautiful things, no significant cost is incurred either to learn, or listen…and the emotional and mental benefits you enjoy accumulate the more you invest in it.

Traditionally, learning and performing opera has always been a guarded craft hidden behind the the curtains of theatres and conservatories in Milan, Rome, Berlin and Paris - which few ever get to access. But in South Australia, our group exists that puts the power of this most human artistic expression, right in the neighbourhood of ordinary people.

The Ozitalia Choir was formed by a group of passionate Italians who now live in Adelaide, who possess the technique and knowledge brought directly from the great theatres of Europe, and who coach choir members in operatic performance. Ozitalia Choir boasts a full ensemble choir and performs regularly, giving joy to thousands who attend its concerts…and enormous satisfaction and experience, to its members.

The current President is Cav. Martino Princi, a devoted and productive champion of "il bel’canto” and a representative of the Italian government. He and his dedicated committee have grown the choir into one of the largest in South Australia to take its position as a the largest Italian music and opera group in the state. The choir performs regularly, drawing large crowds, tremendous applause and critical acclaim by musicians and the media.

Joining Ozitalian Choir as a Member: Vocalists and Musicians Invited to Join

Ozitalian is growing and growing. There are multiple opportunities for singers and instrumentalists to become part of the Ozitalian group. Openings exist for both male and female singers to become part of the choir, regardless of age, and regardless of level of proficiency. Complete beginners are also welcome because Ozitalian Choir has an in-house professional vocal coach from Italy who will teach and mentor all new members to build their singing technique and learn how to sing collaboratively in a group setting.

Musicians are also invited to going Ozitalian as we continually expand the number of instruments in our group. Instrumentalists that play any instrument (e.g. guitar, violins, cello, saxophone, trumpet, harp, keyboards/piano, flute, double bass, electric bass…in fact, any instrument…can become part of our choir orchestra to create the music to accompany our singers. This is a very rewarding opportunity for musicians to be involved in a large production environment that puts on exquisite shows for large audiences in some of the best venues in South Australia.
